2023 Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, USA

Screaming Eagle is one of Napa Valley’s most coveted wines, produced in tiny quantities from an estate vineyard on the eastern side of Oakville, where rocky volcanic soils and gravelly loam combine with a gentle west-facing slope and cooling afternoon breezes from San Pablo Bay. The 2023 is approximately 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, with Cabernet Franc and Merlot completing the blend, and is notable for elegance and precision rather than sheer power. Crème de cassis, black cherry, violet, graphite, cedar, licorice, and crushed stone unfold across a deeply layered palate with remarkably polished tannins, tremendous energy, and exceptional length.
