2015 Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny, Loire, France

Clos Rougeard is one of the defining estates of Loire Cabernet Franc, and the 2015 Saumur-Champigny is especially significant as the final vintage of Charly Foucault. Drawn from the estate’s clay-and-limestone parcels around Chacé, farmed organically for generations, the wine was raised for more than two years in barrel before extended aging in the domaine’s deep tuffeau cellars. The 2015 combines the ripeness of the vintage with remarkable freshness and finesse, showing dark berry, raspberry, violet, savory herbs, iodine, and chalky minerality across a silky, concentrated palate with fine tannins and a long, aromatic finish.
