2008 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard, Rhone, France (Stained Label)

Thierry Allemand’s Reynard is the domaine’s most profound expression of Cornas, drawn from old-vine Syrah rooted in steep, decomposed-granite slopes. Allemand works the vineyards by hand, ferments with a high proportion of whole clusters, and raises the wine for nearly two years in seasoned barrels and foudres before bottling unfined and unfiltered. The powerful 2009 vintage gives Reynard exceptional concentration without sacrificing freshness, with cassis, blackberry, violet, licorice, dried herbs, tar, and crushed stone layered across a full-bodied palate with vibrant acidity, substantial tannins, and an exceptionally long, mineral-driven finish.
