2006 Thierry Allemand Cornas Chaillots, Rhone, France
Thierry Allemand’s Chaillots comes from the domaine’s younger Syrah vines, planted on steep limestone and granite slopes in Cornas, and offers a more lifted, immediately expressive counterpart to Reynard. Allemand farms organically by hand, ferments with whole clusters, and ages the wine for two years in seasoned foudres and barriques before bottling unfined and unfiltered with very little sulfur. The 2006 is especially elegant and precise, with redcurrant, strawberry, blackberry, violet, cured meat, black pepper, and crushed stone carried by vibrant acidity, silky tannins, and a long, mineral-driven finish.
