2004 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard, Rhone, France
Thierry Allemand’s Reynard is the domaine’s most profound expression of Cornas, drawn from 34–90-year-old Syrah vines rooted in steep, decomposed-granite slopes. Allemand farms organically by hand, ferments with whole clusters, and ages the wine for 24 months in seasoned foudres and barriques before bottling unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur. Allemand himself favored 2004 for its balance, elegance, and finesse, and the wine combines that refinement with Reynard’s characteristic depth. Blackberry, cassis, dark cherry, violet, iron, tobacco, and crushed stone unfold across a concentrated yet beautifully balanced palate with fine tannins and an exceptionally long, mineral finish.
